THE ARTIST
”A master of abstraction. With her delicate color selection and subtle texture, she creates pieces that fill spaces with calm. She seeks a meditative atmosphere for your space.”
– Christina Pomareta, Art Curator – Madrid.
Johanna Elbe (b. 1984) originally comes from Gislaved and moved to Växjö after graduating high school to study visual arts and mathematics at the university (2003-2008). With a Master in Education for Artistic Expression and Ethical Interpretation of Art and Mathematics - she's a licensed art teacher certified for the higher education. Johanna is also a board member of Växjö Art Round and in February 2023 she was named Artist of the Month by the Swedish Artists' Association.
During her early artistic career, Johanna focused on copper engraving with an emphasis on etching in both hard and soft ground. Her work in graphics was alternated with painting in pop art, realism, and figurative art.
Due to various circumstances, she chose to take a break from art in 2012. Johanna became active again in 2019 when painting became part of her healing process after severe exhaustion. The expression that emerged during this time forms the foundation of her current visual language and is the basis for the abstract art series Japandi Art.
The art, with its sublime expression, strives to capture the feeling and essence of nature. Each painting is complemented by a poem to create a deeper meaning and dimension to the artist's own inner world. These two components together form the complete work and often reflect the needs Johanna herself has in her creation. To find time for recovery and to find breathing space in the chaos around her. An attempt to make the viewer disappear into the art – to both see what she sees and feel what she feels.
